Host Your Own
Retreat in Fez
Few places inspire like Fez
More than a city, it’s an open-air studio

For over a thousand years, Fez Medina has been a place where ideas take shape in wood, clay, metal, and cloth. Today, its UNESCO-protected Medina offers inspiration, context you can work in, respond to, and build into your own retreat.

Your Vision. Our Setting

Fez Art Residency invites artists, creatives, and cultural practitioners to host their own retreat in Fez.

You shape the programme.

You bring your community.

We support the delivery.

Whether you’re a painter, writer, textile artist, photographer, or working across disciplines, this is an opportunity to extend your practice beyond the studio. We provide the setting, local knowledge, and on-the-ground support, allowing you to focus on designing and leading the experience.

Fez - The Perfect Backdrop for Your Creative Retreat
Imagine leading your guests through the narrow lanes of the Medina, pausing to watch a coppersmith at work, listening to the clack of a weaver’s loom, or or moving slowly through the colour and energy of the souks.

Hosting a retreat builds connections with your community in a way that goes beyond what is possible online, in a gallery or your studio. It positions you differently, not just as an artist whose work is admired and respected, but as someone who brings people into your way of seeing and working.

At the same time, you are doing this in a city that offers constant input - new references, materials, and ideas that can feed back into your own practice and future work. In this way, the retreat becomes both a shared experience and a step forward in your own development.
Your retreat, our support - in Morocco's cultural capital
What We Provide
Our role is to support you in making your retreat work, both practically and in context.

From initial planning and local arrangements to accommodation and on-the-ground support, we provide the structure that allows you to focus on what matters most: designing and leading the experience. We don’t dictate the programme. Instead, we offer on-the-ground support, local knowledge, and guidance needed to help everything run smoothly within the Medina. This allows you to concentrate on your participants, your programme, and the experience you want to create.

Dar Drouj
Spacious and full of character, Dar Drouj accommodates up to 10 guests in five well-appointed bedrooms, offering a comfortable and cohesive environment for small groups.. Located just beyond the Medina walls, the house is close enough to remain connected, yet removed enough to offer space, calm, and perspective.
What You Bring
It all begins with you - your practice, your story, and the way you want to share it. Your creative direction will guide everything from the retreat’s theme to the daily rhythm, shaping an experience that is uniquely yours.

Your Community

Your community is your greatest asset, and your retreat is an opportunity to bring them closer. By inviting loyal fans and followers, collectors, and like- minded peers, you’ll create a gathering of people who are excited to learn from you and be part of your creative world.

You can host:

  • Solo (6–8 guests ideal but the dar can accommodate up to 10 comfortably)
  • With a co-leader (split income and responsibilities)
  • As part of a larger group residency or retreat that includes accommodation elsewhere in the Medina

Your Story

No one can tell your story better than you. Through your own platforms and voice, you’ll share the vision of your retreat, invite and inspire people to join you in Fez, and set the tone for the creative experience they’ll take alongside you.

You’re responsible for:

  • Promoting your retreat via your platform
  • Sharing visuals, stories, and your Fez connection
  • Managing participant interest & communication

We’ll provide:

  • Promo materials, photos, and example copy
  • Your own retreat listing on our site (optional)

How Your Retreat Can Be Structured

There are different ways to structure your retreat, depending on how you prefer to work.

Depending on your approach, you may prefer to work independently, share responsibility, or develop a structure that reflects a specific collaboration and a tailored approach. We can talk through these options and find what feels most appropriate for you.

We recognise that each retreat is different. The intention is not to maximise output, but to find a structure that supports the experience you want to create, both practically and in a way that supports your longer-term development as an artist.
  • Shared Model
In this approach, the income from participants is shared after the core costs of running the retreat are covered. This creates a more balanced structure, where both sides share responsibility and outcome.

    Example:
    Participant fee: £990 × 6 = £5,940
    Base costs: £1,575
    Remaining amount: €4,365
    Split: 55% (you) / 45% (FAR)
    Your share: €2,400

Often suited to those who prefer a lower upfront commitment and a more shared approach.
  • Flexible Arrangements
Some retreats don’t fit a standard structure. In these cases, we work with you to develop an approach that reflects the nature of the project.

This might involve collaborating with another artist or organisation, shaping a co-hosted programme, or building something that sits between a retreat and a residency.

These arrangements are built through conversation, with the focus on creating a format that supports your intentions, rather than forcing them into a fixed model.
